It's a well trodden path, unfortunately.
They say that you have to have it, throw in some broken English (which doesn't work, as my wife is fluent in Spanish) and rely on folks being tired, having grouchy kids, just wanting to get the car and get out of the airport etc, and "just pay it, we'll sort it out later".
It's a con that's been going on for as long as I can remember.1 -

It's nothing to do with Brexit. I voted remain, not that I should have to defend my view, but this is literally something that was the case pre-Brexit and continues to be the case post-Brexit. It simply isn't relevant.1 -

That's right, it's when you mistakenly enter into a discussion that they know there's a good chance of scamming you, and no doubt earn a commission or at least help preserve their employment...
