Have tried turning the computer off and turning on then conecting USB to computer and player - but no 'ding dong' as I turn the player on and no pop up message. My camera works OK using the USB.0

Seems to narrow it down - either the player or the USB lead seems to be at fault. I've had a brand new lead, supplied with a new product, that was faulty, so worth checking. If the USB lead from your camera has the right connectors, try that with the player.
(BTW, it's dong-ding, not ding-dong!)0
