Is the tariff you’re quoting for the Loyal Octopus Fixed? As it does seem high. I’m with Octopus too, the Loyal Fixed option I have been quoted includes an exit fee of £75. So I guess one of the most important thing for you to consider is whether the tariff you’re being quoted includes an exit fee. And if it does, whether you would make any saving if you left and moved to a cheaper option at a later date, bearing in mind if you left within the 12 months you have to pay the additional exit fee.
The second thing to consider is that the energy price cap is due to go down in October 2023, so my understanding is that if there were any major geo-political events or other factors influencing energy prices any increases would be capped. With this in mind if I were you I would also consider taking how much below the October cap the new tariff you’re thinking of moving to is…and whether you could make any savings.

    It's the Economy 7 rate.

A price cap applies to Economy 7 but not in the same way as unit rates are capped for single rate.  The day rate is higher because the night rate is lower.

Ah! Well there you go then OP, I am not on Economy 7 so the rate structure is different.

Can anybody tell me, is it possible with Octopus to fix with gas but float with Electricity? We've recently got solar panels installed and would prefer to be a bit more flexible regarding our tariff choice for the electric while we see how things go with the panels.

In the past it has certainly been possible being as some Octo tariffs are electricity only, need to contact Octopus to change one fuel to fixed.
  • Hi, can anyone confirm what times and days the night rate applies on this tariff?  It's not clear from Octopus' information. Thanks

    Welcome to the forum.
If you are referring to the Economy 7 version of the Loyal Octopus fix, you will get seven hours but the exact times can vary from region to region and from property to property.

What I don't get is why these fixed deals just offer a single rate rather than a day rate and a night rate? Surely they want us to push our usage to the night if we can? I'm sure it makes sense to Octopus but it doesn't work for me given I have solar panels and batteries installed now!
