United only offering to pay me in USD?

I've claimed the €600 compensation, they have accepted, but are now saying they'll pay it by cheque in USD. Is there any alternative? I'd rather not have to open a new HSBC account and then lose money on the exchange. It all seems crazy complicated.

Any advice?

Find a company that will cash a USD cheque and tell them to add the cost to their compensation.

If you were claiming under the EU regulations (i.e. for a flight originating in the EU) it should be paid in € or if using the UK ones then £, but US companies can take quite an insular view about such things.  Not sure there's much you can realistically do about it if they refuse to play ball though, won't your own bank convert a dollar cheque?
