Resolved now, thank you for your comment, I booked via booking.com and they accept AMEXla531983 said:Any Visa or Mastercard would be fine tbh, all would carry the same protection. Can't comment on why they don't accept Amex, does seem odd.0 -
Thank you to everyone that commented on this thread, you can close the thread now, all sorted thanks.

But, as above, the transaction won't have the section 75 protection that many associate with paying via a credit card, so perhaps a pyrrhic victory....IloveElephants said:

I cant imagine using a third party booking site for a flight only booking is advisable either tbh.
Too late now.0 -
booking.com use gotogate for flights...they don't have the best reputation so make sure you keep a close eye on the booking on the airline website regularly.IloveElephants said:Resolved now, thank you for your comment, I booked via booking.com and they accept AMEX

If you are booking for a friend then even booking direct with the airline would most likely not receive any additional protection by using a credit card. Having now booked via an agent the chances of any protection are further reduced.IloveElephants said:Hi, I would like to book some flights for a friend as I have a credit card and it offers more protection so I have been advised.0 -
For the avoidance of doubt, booking the way you did and for friends not yourself means you won't have S75 protection.
If you had booked direct with the airline you would have had chargeback protection, but not via booking.com as you paid them and they have done what you asked.0 -
Unlike section 75, chargeback doesn't have the requirement for an unbroken debtor-creditor-supplier chain, so indirect bookings via agencies should still benefit from chargeback protection.km1500 said:For the avoidance of doubt, booking the way you did and for friends not yourself means you won't have S75 protection.

Slinky said:Amex fees for merchants are quite a bit higher than Visa or Mastercard which is why a lot of places don't accept it,It really is a case of Amex? That WON'T do nicely.More and more of previously reluctant significant size busineses are now accepting Amex.Lidl and Aldi for example - and very recently B&M Stores.

I already said that my own experience with Emirates was that they accepted Amex the last time I used them to book online, I even paid for an upgrade at the airport at their counter using Amex around the same time, but since reading this post I have spent some times searching this further and there is no indication that they have stopped Amex acceptance for GBP transactions, so I wonder if the OP was trying to book a trip originating in another country where Emirates may not accept Amex (the country of origin drives the currency at which the booking is charged and therefore the country where the transaction is processed).0
