ATC strike caused flight cancellation - refund hassles

Had a search but couldn't quite see this situation on the forums..
RyanaIr cancelled our flight to southern France less than 24 hours before departure. We managed to find an EasyJet flight to an airport 380 km away and took a one-way a hire car to get us to our onward arrangements. Prior to booking all of this, a Ryanair agent confirmed over webchat that this would all be refunded - he also stated that a transcript of our conversation would be available on their site under "My Transcripts" when logged in.
Upon getting home, RA have refunded the EJ flight but are refusing to honour the £250 car hire offering instead something like £70 and claiming that public transport could have been used. We have searched in vain for any public transport that could have got 2 adults and 2 children across France in that time frame for that price. After the flight refund, Ryanair have stopped responding to mails from us.
Furthermore there simply is no "My Transcripts" section on their website.
Can anyone suggest whether we have any hope of getting this loot back?!?

choose 'my bookings' (to the left of your name)
select 'Customer Service Requests' (bottom right of screen)
