Sky Existing customer asked to pay £26 more than new customers for a poorer package

My sky subscription is due for renewal in September . They have quoted me a £20 a month increase. I have Sky Broadband, SKY TV , Netflix and landline  phone call anytime included package. New customers can get same speed broadband, Sky TV , Netflix and Sky cinema for £55 a  month. I am a VIP customer so much for loyalty. If I switched to Virgin Media I could get a similar package for the mid £50 a month. I an happy with Sky but as a pensioner I may be forced to switch. Any advise please

Try again another day, sometimes it all depends on who you speak to.
  • Presumably the notification of increase came by email/post?
We got one exactly the same but  if you ring them up they adjust the price, I think they hope you will just pay up and say nothing.
They changed the price for us but the contract time is now extended to 18 months at renewal. However they did tell me to call them shortly before renewal next time so they could 'see what they could do' about the renewal quote. They dont want to lose customers so will always discount if you call them at renewal time.

Play chicken with them, cancel everything and on the final day before it's cut off you usually get an email with a juicy offer.
In fact they continue to send you emails thought the notice period with ever more enticing offers to stay.

Well that's what they used to do.

Used to be true - but nowadays it appears that the majority have to put in a cancellation request and be prepared to carry thru if nothing decent is offered in the notice period. Then it's pot luck if you get a decent "come back to Sky" offer afterwards. The income they are getting from some subscribers, is obviously padding their bottom line.
  • I am a similar situation Sky are asking me as an existing customer to pay£27 a month than new customer s. They did offer me a £7 s month reduction do much for loyalty. I may be forced to switch to another provider purely because they are offering similar packages as cheaper prices

Put your cancellation in.  You will get a call back, or email with a far better offer

Put in the cancellation request then see what they come back with. I used to be with Sky years ago but they only offered me a very small discount when they made contact on the last day they kept saying I wasn't a new customer so they couldn't offer me a bigger discount. I was happy to go 21 days with no internet connection to get a different supplier. I haven't  had anything to do with Sky since the date I left them which would be nearly 20 years ago.
Someone please tell me what money is
  • Sky do not interested in retaining loyal customers. Maybe best to switch to a 12 month contract with another provider then you could return to Sky as a New Customer and then you will get a good deal.
