Threat of CCJ from Euro Car Parks Limited

My son has received notices from, firstly, ZZPS Limited, and now QDR Solicitors in reference to car parking 'fines' relating to 2020 and 2021.  He tried to contact ZZPS on the mobile number they sent in order to discuss payment, but to no avail.  Having read online that these are 'invoices' rather than 'fines', we decided to go down the ignoring path.  He has now received, as I mention above, letters referring to the possibility of CCJs and/or visits from the Bailiffs.  Why are they pursuing this now, after two or three years' time?  The amount is £725 altogether.  Is it legal for them to pursue a CCJ?

The ignoring path advice expired about 2012. They have 6 years to pursue. He would be better off joining and asking for help in the parking area-

Why now? - Well, probably because your son has ignored all the previous letters.

Is it legal? - Yes, but a CCJ will not be granted if your son can persuade the court that the claim is unsound. Frankly, that seems unlikely.

As above, post on the parking sub-forum or on pepipoo.com for more expert advice.

Given that your son must be an adult now, even if he wasn't when he first received the parking tickets, you should remove yourself from the process and let him sort it out for himself rather than relying on your probably well-meant but misleading advice. As stated, he should post on the sub-board or pepipoo.com.

Indeed, we seem to see a lot of posts here from parents whose offspring are big enough to sort out their own problems. It's one thing to ask mum or dad to help if they're actually more knowledgeable...
  • But how can it be possible for car parking invoices to be increased to such an amount?

Chasing debts for a period of 2-3 years isn't cheap.

When I once had to chase a couple who were ignoring debts, I had to fork out my own money up front multiple times.  I guess the hope was I gave up / ran out of money first?

The charge for the parking has not increased. Debt recovery costs have been added .

And post on the parking sub forum. It is very likely your son won't end up paying but he needs to get the proper advice.

Expect lengthy discussion on that point alone when your thread gets on the Parking Board.

I've asked MSE's Forum Team to move this thread there but they don't work weekends or Bank Holidays.

Firstly there is no debt, only a scummy so called debt collector working on a no win no fee scam, how is sending a few template letters costly?
In the case of private parking tickets they allege a debt add on a silly fee for sending loads of scrap paper, they have nothing to chase and eventually hand it back to the equally scummy PPC.
Never phone a debt collector it won't get you anywhere, and why pay them a ridiculous fee for being a school bully.
The place to start in the newbies thread on this forum it's all there.
