Did you try it without Aero? I was under the impression that Vista is kinder on the battery than XP without Aero on, but Ive never tried a comparison.

I vaguely remember talk about the really poor battery life in the beta stages. But I don't remember if anyone actually mentioned what it was like without Aero. It'd be interesting to hear what SP1 does for battery life, especially in comparison to XP SP3 which is supposed to be quite a bit of a speed improvement.

I have the SP3 downloaded and also as an option in windows update, I am intending to do a fresh install soon and I may apply the SP3, but it is still beta.

I dont know super. I was under the impression that Vista was going to take into account a much higher percentage of laptop users, so better power management, but what actually happened, I dont know. Given the increased memory requirements of Vista, its hard to believe that Vista will use less power.
