Vista

Is there a site available for what is Vista and what is not vista compatable?
I need to know that my printers and some software will run under Vista before I buy a vista laptop.

Thanks

A "vista compatibility" search in Google appears to work quite well...

Windows Vista RTM Software Compatibility List

Id search for the printer model + vista too.

Non Vista Laptops are becoming more and more scarce.

If you want an XP one you'd best not hang about too long.

I recently bought a laptop with VISTA home basic on it, phoned up HP and asked if it was possible to downgrade to XP.

They sent me (for free) XP Pro disk to make the change, not installed it so far but still handy to have.

Before you go down the route of downgrading make sure you research any possible problems, in our case we would have to change the BIOS setting for hard drive from SATA to ? then after installing XP and SATA drivers reinstate the BIOS setting.

And don't forget to download all XP drivers.

I downgraded my Dell laptop from Vista business to XP pro. Now laptop runs much more smoother and the batter last about 45 mins more, because the cpu isnt working as hard in XP than Vista

I believe with Vista Business or Vista Ultimate you will have downgrade rights to XP Pro from Microsoft itself as part of its licensing agreement.

What is all of this talk of "downgrade". From what i have seen of freinds and families machines that came with Vista and now run XP. XP is an upgrade....

If "upgrade" was a synonym for "better" you may have a point. But alas it isn't. "Upgrade"/"Downgrade" have only ever been defined as "Newer"/"older" and I'm relatively sure XP is older than Vista and so is indisputably a downgrade from Vista by definition. I may be a pedant but I'm still right. :D
