MBNA seems to have a sort of cashback, but they do not give any useful details. The header shows Costa Coffee, Harvey Nichols, Just Eat, and Sainsburys. No mention of Asda and Lidl. It looks like you only get cashback from overpriced suppliers in posh areas. No mention of Visa or being able to change the contactless limit.
You may be looking at a different card of course, but my MBNA (Visa) card gives 0.5% cashback on all transactions (except cash withdrawals, currency purchase etc - the usual stuff)

There are "smart rewards" in addition to this, which change and expire. e.g. I can  currently get 20% cashback on 'posh overpriced' wine from Laithwaites, expiring in 5 days.

And yes, the contactless limit can be changed in the app.
Thanks for that. It gives me the information that I could not find on the MBNA website. I drink water, by the way. It is cheaper than wine and better for my health.

Why not stop doing ths sort of spending on your Barclaycard and use a Chase debit card instead? That will pay you 1% cashback, give you 1% interest on balances held in the account (and 4.1% if you also open their savings account) and from what I can see it's possible to set your own spending limits - the downside of course is that you have to run it through the app, and your mobile phone must be able to install the app, primarily by using 64 bit processing.
well one reason against using a debit card is that if you die you're executor can get all your bank statements back for seven years and see what you have been spending your money on - indeed they are required to do that to check for inheritance tax requirements

what they can't do is get your credit card statements

It is quite intriguing to think what the spends are that would concern you (after death) and be of such interest to the Executor

What an odd post. I'm not sure why you think that the executor's ability to review staments is a bad thing, I did it after my mum died so that I could establish what charities she donated to so that I could advise them of her death. Given that the OP is concerned mainly with purchasing food I don't suppose the executors would find anything of great concern.
And I can see no reason why it would be any more difficult to get hold of credit card statements than bank statements.

A credit card provider will not release statements to anyone else, not even an executor

And i can quite imagine why some people would not want eg their family (as executors) to know what they have been spending their money on in the 7 years previous

@GeoffTF Just make a hole using a paper punch.  You may be able to see four fine wires if you first shine your phone's torch through from the rear.
You will then have a non-contactless card.  😃

Rather than continue to take this thread off topic I have created a thread on the Death, funerals & probate board to ask people there who have actually requested credit card statements for their experiences. Feel free to contribute your thoughts there too.

You may be referring to the MBNA Horizon Cashback card, which has never been openly available but was a replacement products for customers that previously held one of the many MBNA issued Airlines card (Emirates, United, Lufthansa, Ethiad etc), it not only give you 0.5% cashback but it is also forex fee free. It is one of the legacy Cards I am keen to keep retaining myself (the others being Hilton Honours Barclaycard and Santander Zero, but let go of the Barclaycard Cashback as it was similar to the MBNA but with no Forex benefit and thus decided to swap it for the Avios version).

Again, this card was never opened to new applicants and only offered as a retention products to customers of one of the Airlines card mentioned above, that were exited by MBNA when the deal with Amex ended (they were duo cards product, Amex/Visa).

Possibly. Now you've jogged my memory, it was a dual card, but that was so long ago I'd forgotten!
But it wasn't anything to do with an airline.

My app simply describes it as "cashback credit card", but if I look at the payee details in the current account that I use to pay it (set up many moons ago) it's say "MBNA Platinum Mastercard".
