I moved to Octopus to get a smart meter fitted to become a member of a local solar farm scheme. As did several of my neighbours. Fitter came to us all and attempted to set up smart meters. They are not able to be connected so we have smart meters sitting idle. This has been on going for over a year. We didn't have mobile signal in our area for many years until a 4G mast was fitted. Unfortunately the smart meters require a 2 or 3G signal.
Best wins; GoPro, £2K, Brittany week, festival tix twice, Bath break, Sweden spa break, iPhone x2, £250 Amazon x2, tech bundle, 55" TV, Haven break, £1K, Smeg mixer, 3 night spa break, Greenhouse, posh tent, house plants, 2 pairs boots, posh mattress, year tailored supps, £250 lingerie, £150 buyagift, £250 hotel
  • Octopus offer a much wider range of smart tariffs than other suppliers with huge potential for money saving so it is hardly surprising that they are popular here. It's also hardly surprising that they have earned a reputation for being good at resolving smart meter issues - their business model is largely based around innovation and smart meters so depends on it.

Experience of the regular contributors to this forum has also shown that their customer service, although not perfect, is consistently better than other suppliers. Most contributors don't have an axe to grind and if the tables turn and Octopus service declines then you can be confident that will be quickly reflected here.

As a recent new Octopus customer I can confirm that I am benefitting from the innovative pricing and good customer service that is widely reported here and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

To put your comments into some context, Octopus’ customer service is no longer what it once was. As Octopus has increased in size, its customer response times particularly with regard to emails has increased from hours to days. The AI Bot responses are quick but getting CS action can at times be frustrating. For example, trying to get credit back when the response is ‘we need a meter reading’ or more recently ‘there is a supplier dispute on your account’. Neither response was true. I have a working smart meter and I have been an Octopus customer for over 5 years.

  • Thanks for all your replies.
    A quick update…
Within 3 weeks of joining Octopus they fitted a smart meter, and I am now benefitting from much cheaper ev charging tariffs.
I challenged Eon on this and surprise surprise was fobbed off with an excuse.
Makes you wonder how much they are making from customers who will just accept any old excuse for not fitting one and carry on paying higher prices for charging.
Once again, thanks all for your help.

Suppliers are struggling to get sufficient meters and there is a shortage of installers. You will find that in some regions, Octopus customers are waiting some time to get a smart meter fitted. I am not sure that you can claim that suppliers are holding back from fitting smart meters to make more money when they get fined by Ofgem for not meeting their agreed smart meter installation targets.
