Impenetrable data from EDF
I'm the Treasurer of a local Scout Group.
We are with EDF, and have a smart meter that sends half-hourly data back to it.
EDF classes us as a business.
Our usage is inexplicably high and we'd love to be able to analyse it by day and hour to try and find what's going on.
Although EDF provides a "hub" for analysis of smart meter data for home consumers, it doesn't for "businesses".
However it did send us an email last month offering to send our half-hourly data, which I received today.
It comes in the form of 2 spreadsheets called Electricity_Rate1 and Electricity_Rate2.
I decided to analyse the data for the period 04/07/23 to 02/08/23, the last period for which we have an EDF bill. Here's what I found:
Both spreadsheets ("Rate1" and "Rate2") show, by adding up the half-hourly amounts between those two dates, 148.469. In fact, the data for the two rates is exactly the same! The 148.469 (kWh presumably) is not the same as either amount which appears on our EDF bill for that date (154kWh and 169kWh respectively). Pick any half hour within the many month's of data and both the Rate1 and Rate2 registers are being updated. But of course at any given time you're on Rate1 or Rate2 - you can't be on both!
Either I am dicing the data wrongly, or it's complete !!!!!!. I do suspect the latter. But I wondered if anyone has experience with this output? I'm happy to provide it if anyone's interested: there is no personal or sensitive data.
Thanks
V

Can you try the Bright app on your phone - it may be able to pull the 30 minute data for you.2

I'll try it tomorrow. I can't do it now as I need the smart meter home display apaz, and that's at the Hut.brook_heather said:Can you try the Bright app on your phone - it may be able to pull the 30 minute data for you.0 -
Are you being charged for 154kWh plus 169kWh on the EDF bill for that period? I am no expert but I wonder if you have a three phase electricity supply into the building and the load is split across two of the phases. Not sure how 3 phase metering works, but it seem s strange you are being charged for two different usage amounts on the same bill.1

How high is "inexplicably" high. ?Our usage is inexplicably high and we'd love to be able to analyse it by day and hour to try and find what's going on.

What rate of VAT are you paying ?
What is your heating / lighting ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
The Bright App cannot help, based upon our "home" display's GUID.valiant24 said:

Yes, there's a Day Rate and a Night Rate. Economy 7 in old money. Doubt if it's 3-phase; it's very rural down here and the utilities don't give much of a toss.lohr500 said:Are you being charged for 154kWh plus 169kWh on the EDF bill for that period? About 9-10kWh a day on average. And we only have LED lighting, no heating except a kettle.Robin9 said:EDF classes us as a business.

OP, would you be comfortable putting the data you received into a google doc (redacting anything personally identifiable) and sharing to see if anyone here could make heads or tails of it?I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.0
