I have opened my master socket up and removed the orange wire connected to number 3 because apparently it helps speed your internet connection up but as i found out it hasnt helped me. I was wondering if it was easy to reconect the wire back into the socket as my microfilters dont work probably and the phoneline is crackly

Definately reconnect it. It is connected for a reason. You might have found out your phone didn't ring! Sure this is the ringing cable. But I could be wrong!0

The wiring on pin 3 is redundant on an ADSL enabled line. Only pins 2 and 5 are used and the microfilters connect to the line across this pair. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
but as i say its all crackly now and rings then dissconnects
how easy is it to reconnect0 -
Get a flat ended screwdriver, offer the cable up to the opening, over the top of it so some pops out the other side, then press down into the gap, nott too hard, the metal jaws in the gap will pierce the cable coating and make a connection. I deally you need a Krone tool! but a screwdriver will do for pushing the cable in.0

If you have a crackly line, the disconnected ringing wire should not make any difference. It's as easy to connect as to disconnect but it sounds like you have other problems. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Pin 3 is to prevent bell tinkle. In the old days (phone with bells) when phone A dials out the second household phone (B) bell would tinkle for each number dialed on that rotary dial (pulse dialling).
I suggest you get a free plastic insert tool from somewhere as using a screwdriver will damage the the pin and force open the jaws giving a poor / bad connection at sometime0 -

WHY NOT JUST RECONNECT IT AND SEE IF THE PROBLEMS GOES. The problem did not exist prior to it's removal! What have you got to loose by reconnecting it.
BTW have you tried doing a test of your Broadband using speedtest.net.0
