Retailer refusing refund saying I removed labels

Hi all, any advice would be appreciated on this situation.
I bought a dress for £24 from SilkFred.com which sells clothes from small independent brands. I tried the dress on for about 10 seconds, saw it was poor quality and didn't fit so immediately put it back in the packaging. I returned it a week later. They've now emailed me saying the small brand has received it back and won't refund me as I removed the tags. I definitely didn't remove them! Admittedly I didnt look at the tags when I tried it on, so they may have been off when they sent it, but it was returned in the exact condition I received it. I have emailed them back to dispute this but don't hold out much hope, is there anything I can do to increase my chances of getting a refund? They have said they're sending the dress back to me, should I refuse to accept the parcel? It's not a huge amount of money in the grand scheme of things but every penny counts for me right now, so this is really frustrating as I've got no proof I'm not lying. I paid with Visa Debit, is it worth going down the chargeback route for this scenario?
Thanks

They appear to be a UK company, even if you had, removing the tags doesn't invalidate your right of cancellation.

Presumably you have proof of return? I would look at a chargeback mentioning you returned the goods as they weren't of satisfactory quality.
