Inheriting ISA allowance

Looking ahead, I've been trying to understand the rules around someone inheriting cash ISAs from their spouse. I've established that the spouse inherits their late spouses allowance, even if the cash goes elsewhere etc. What I can't seem to establish is whether the inherited allowance remains forever or whether it expires when the ISAs reach maturity or after a certain period of time. I've done a lot of Googling and looked at HMRC website but I can't find a definitive answer. Can anyone help please?

According to Nationwide it is within 3 years of the death or 180 days of the estate being settled (I presume that means obtaining probate / confirmation / letters of administration)) whichever is the latest.0

The definitive rules are within the fairly comprehensive document at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/manage-additional-permitted-subscriptions-into-an-isa#making-cash-additional-permitted-subscriptions and echo the Nationwide wording above:nothingyou said:What I can't seem to establish is whether the inherited allowance remains forever or whether it expires when the ISAs reach maturity or after a certain period of time.
