EDF go electric tariff

Hello, back in sept 2022 we were advised by EDF to fix our electricity for the next two years to guarantee we have the best deal. We are on a go electric tariff with a peak rate of 60p/kWh and 30p/kWh off peak. We have just discovered that the newer tariff has a peak rate of 30p/kWh and feel cheated. We will have to pay exit fees of £150 for electricity and another £150 if we want to change the gas tariff too. Is there anything I can do to avoid the fees? I feel so disappointed with this. We have struggled to pay our bills, but do not claim any benefit so do not qualify for additional help.

Is that a business tarriff? Thats seems an extortionate deal for a domestic dual tarriff, 30p off peak wasnt much less than the government cap for a single rate tarriff at that time.

Usually Exit fees only apply if you are transferring to another supplier. Contact Edf

Never pay on an estimated bill

Do the maths on your actual usage, you might find you can claw back that £150 pretty quickly. Assuming EDF enforce it if you move to a different EDF tariff.

It is a personal tariff and the irony is that we thought it would be cheaper to do it this way as we have an electric car.

Ouch. You have been led down the garden path by someone here, you need to get off this ASAP. Please specify the full name of the tarriff you are on, including month/year at the end of the tariff name if there is one.

Even moving to the SVR would be better but if you have an electric car you maybe need to look at a specialist EV tariff, not even sure if EDF offer these.

When you fixed in September 2022, single rate fixed tariff deals were around 45-50p/kWh. At that time, a 30/60p split rate might well have been in your best interests.
Then the EPG came along and taxpayer's money was used to discount most tariffs down to 35p/kWh. Hopefully you benefitted from this over the winter months.

You have not been cheated. Every time you take a fixed rate tariff there's a chance that a cheaper deal will come along. This is why there are exit fees and why you should take all factors into account before accepting a tariff offer.

You have my sympathy, but this is the tariff you signed up for.

Depending on your car and/or wall charger installed at home one of the Octopus tariffs will almost certainly work out the best deal, as their peak rate is generally in line with normal rates and they offer off-peak rates around the 7.5p per kWh range.

7.10 confirms the exit fee, doesnt suggest it would be waived if you move to another EDF tariff but its worth asking them
