I guess Paypal doesn't consider the account closed until buyers are not able to make a claim/chargeback to that account. Otherwise they could potentially lose £41 and have to pursue you for it.
Is the question not I have my item back, do I owe Paypal the £41
Answer is Yes
Read the last sentence twice from the following
Limitations on Closing Your Account. You may not close your Account to evade an investigation. If you attempt to close your Account while we are conducting an investigation, we may hold your funds for up to 180 Days to protect PayPal or a third party against the risk of Reversals, Chargebacks, Claims, fees, fines, penalties and other liability. You will remain liable for all obligations related to your Account even after the Account is closed.0 -
I wanted advice as to paypal taking money from a closed account.
A closed account counts for nothing if someone disputes a payment - if you read the T&Cs you'll see they can do this. It would be pointless to quibble over it, anyway, as the guy is legally (if not morally) entitled to his refund.I gained 41.00 by selling the item, refund issued from a dead a account and had to pay the 41.00 back, so now i am not 41.00 in profit, i *lost* the 41.00 profit, if that makes sense.
You'll feel happier about the whole thing if you stop talking as though you've 'lost' something - you've not lost anything... just some money has moved aroundMy TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
What type of account do you suppose to have?
I thought you had to have a premier account to accept payments. Have I been having the wrong type?!?! I only sell things of eBay for Christmas and it usually my old junk (but another man's treasure) that I want rid of.
To answer this, a premier account enables you to receive payment from Credit card funded accounts.
The basic one will let you only take money from debit cards or PP accounts with a balance. It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.
Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.0 -
I've had an issue with Paypal today.
A while back a buyer did a chargeback against me for £9.99. This was done by their credit card due to "Unauthorised Usage"
Paypal set aside the £9.45 (that's the net amount the buyer paid minus Paypal's cut).
I got an update email today saying that I had lost the dispute, despite me providing proof of posting to the buyer's address.
To add insult to injury they have whacked on to a £7 "fee" - I am currently in contact with them by email to see why they have "stolen" money from my account in addition to the refund for the buyerWycombe Till I Die0 -

Proof of posting - has anyone has this £7 fee levied on them following a chargeback
Just found this
Why am I charged a £7.00 GBP fee for chargeback settlement?
Question : Answer :To cover the cost of processing chargebacks PayPal charges a £7.00 GBP chargeback settlement fee to sellers who are determined to be at fault for credit card payment chargebacks. The fee will be waived in those cases where the sellers have fulfilled all the requirements of PayPal's Seller Protection Policy. The chargeback settlement fee will also be waived for all sellers participating in our PayPal Preferred programme.
MY FAULT!!! Is it my fault the buyer had their card "misused" - that was the reason it became a chargeback. Absoloutly disgustingWycombe Till I Die0 -
You were onto a loser straight away because you did not use a post method that gave proof of delivery.
Sounds as if the buyer went straight to his credit card for a charge back without putting a claim in with paypal. Was the buyers address confirmed?0 -
I suppose PayPal see it as your fault because you didn't cover yourself properly.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--
