...My energy company has refunded my £30 by sending me a code and top up my key. I'm no longer out of pocket for that. I didn't let Royal Mail know that. What I said on the form was I want my £3:10 I paid for signed for delivery,£10 worth of stamps and Royal Mail to make a £20 donation to Devon Air Ambulance. Not too bothered about the stamps but I be annoyed if they don't donate to that charity...

@powerful_Rogue after all the stress of RM not fulfilling the service I paid for I would hope they would make a small donation out of the millions of pounds profit they make. As you rightly say I have got my refund from energy company but maybe some good will come out of a bad situation. If I only get stamps I'll donate them to my local DAA shop.
Royal Mail are making a loss, and a very huge one at that.

IDS reported a group adjusted operating loss of 71 million pounds for the year ended March 26, compared with a profit of 758 million pounds a year earlier. Analysts on average had expected a loss of 114 million pounds, according to a company-compiled consensus.

  • I sent documents by signed for delivery. (Guess we all make mistakes) Royal Mail tried to deliver twice but nobody was in so they left a card for them to collect from the nearest delivery office. As presumably they will still have to sign for it, will I be able to tell from the tracking whether or not they collect it?

Maybe - there's a risk the tracking will not update or there could be a delay.

If the documents are important/hard to replace (if you're sending your passport for ID verification for example) you might be able to phone the sorting office and ask them to return to sender (assuming you put your details on the back) - then you could try sending them again when the recipient is going to be in.

If it's something you think the recipient doesn't want to receive (like a LBA) you don't need a signature - proof of posting is sufficient for civil claims.

And signed for / proof of delivery can prove the exact opposite of what proof of posting gives.
