Royal mail signed for package

I sent a package first class signed for   to a friend but postie didn't even knock door and just put it in letterbox. My friend was in and waiting. The tracking number says it was signed. Can prove it wasn't his signature. Is this legal? Can I claim compensation? Royal mail lost the original parcel sent by standard mail so that's why I paid for signed for. It was a electricity top up key with £30 of credit on it.Im now £30 out of pocket plus postage.

So you sent a first class signed for package to your friend which was then received by your friend. You now want to claim compensation for this package.

No, you can't. Morally or legally.

Its a confusing post as he seems to be mixing up two stories here. Its hard to work out.

Can he claim compo for the ORIGINAL missing package? He needs to read here to see if he can - https://www.royalmail.com/retail-compensation-policy-loss
Can he claim compo for the NEW package that was meant to be signed for, and was actually delivered (abeilt without a signature)? Certainly not. He could put in a complaint it was just shoved through his letterbox and he didnt actually sign for it, mind
  • Have a look at buying online for future packages OP

    https://send.royalmail.com/

RM Tracked 48 is a superior service and costs less than Signed For. It's full tracked and scanned on delivery (unless you pay extra for a signature which isn't necessary) with £150 cover.

Most couriers rarely ask people to sign now, they tend to do it themselves, at least around where we are anyway.

If you look at the link given by @la531983 it looks as if you might be able to claim £20 if you can provide evidence of the value of what was lost.

Have you asked at a Post Office what - if anything - you can claim?

As others have said, you can't claim for the "signed for" package not being signed for if it was actually delivered safely.

I try and explain more clearly. I going to accept the original standard delivery parcel has been lost/stolen by Royal mail. I've then paid extra to to get it signed for. Postie has then forged a signature. Legally that is wrong. @HappyHarry,if someone forged your signature after you paid for a signed for delivery you would be SadHarry.

You have still received this package though. By all means put a complaint in about the lack of a signature and you may be given some "go away" money, but you have no rights to claim for the contents - you got them.

Indeed. Maybe your friend should take it up with Royal Mail? I'm not sure what you would expect the outcome to be though, your friend did receive the package that was signed for. It may be that the postie then gets some disciplinary action taken against them. Would that make you feel better?

Have you read my post?  Have they already told you that you can't claim anything?  Have you asked?
