Utility warehouse seems to have a good deal for a flexible rate and my friend who is a partner said he's give me his 'commission' for signing me up.

£75 per fuel. Not sure I'd need to exit within 12 month.
You might not need to - but might you want to?  If variable rates dropped for example.  That's what to factor in.

I went for a Sunday morning scroll to bottom of linked page and discovered UW standalone variable rate is stated to be £5 per year cheaper than competitor price cap average based on typical average use for dual fuel

As long as you are happy having to take their overpriced other utilities as part of the deal...

Actually I got a quote excluding any other services. Their Broadband is slow in my area, I'm a very cheap data only sim user and don't need their insurance. Even then it was the best deal I found and as I said my mate is going to give me his referral payment which is £250 I believe.

I would be astonished if UW pay UW partners £250 for someone switching to standalone variable tariff,  UW £50 each refer a friend person switching has to take at least 2 services.

I just got my letter from EDF stating my options from 30/9 when my fix ends.

    1. fix for a year
    2. std variable

Interestingly both are the same price.

    Sounds like a pyramid scheme.

Have you not heard of Utility Warehouse before?. It's been around for years. I've been aware of it a for more than ten. It's a perfectly bonfide energy/phone/broadband provider.

They are offering the best std varible rate for me at the moment and pay their 'partners' a commission for referring a customer. I do not see how that is a pyramid scheme. It's not costing anyone anything.

I guess they plough their marketing budget into their referral bonuses. My friend got involved as he is a landlord and I guess recommends his tenants use UW - bringing him additional income.

It's even discussed on Martins Money Saver Website
