Approx. cost to replace windows and doors

I've looked at various websites and they all want my phone number, but I'm not quite ready to be bombarded by high-pressure sales people just yet.

So I'm wondering whether anyone would be able to give even a very approximate figure for the cost of replacing 6 windows and 2 doors? I know it will vary on the size of the windows, what colours I go for, whether I get composite doors etc.

But is there any kind of "rule of thumb" I could use to make a very rough guess?

Edit: It's a 2-bed mid terraced house - in north Wales, if that makes any difference.

Are they all just "flat" windows or are there any bays?  If there are bays then what is above them (if load bearing then they will be much more expensive).

Your best bet would probably be to phone up a local company - they would have a rough idea of what the local houses are like.  They will also be cheaper than any of the large, well known companies (and you wouldn't have to put up with the silly sales that are due to finish in an hour, phoning their boss to see if they can make it any cheaper etc).

The rule of thumb is always the same - go for a local independent company.  The big names like Everest, Anglian or whatever are purely interested in profit, to pay for their swanky showrooms, expensive adverts, sales teams, and keeping the shareholders happy.
A local family-run firm will live or die by its reputation, and they want repeat business, word-of-mouth recommendations, and they're looking for a reasonable - rather than outrageous - profit.
Ask around friends and neighbours, or a local community Facebook page, for recommendations.  Or just Google for local companies.  Any genuine company will be happy to come out and give you a quote, without the hard sell.

We had the following prices from a local company a couple of months ago for standard white UPVC casement windows - East England, but probably fairly typical for out of city locations, all prices include VAT, removal of old and fitting of new.

    1800mm wide by 1200mm tall, 3 pane UPVC window = £840
    1200mm wide by 1200mm tall, 2 pane UPVC window = £650
    UPVC back door = £450

Our quote for a 3 window bay window (not load bearing) was £1600

As others have said, don't go for the  high pressure/cold sales biggies. I have just had someone around this week to give me a quote just for my bedroom windows (also 2 bed terrace). Are you a member of a local FB Recommends page/group for your area? I noticed one firm on my local one with lots of positive feedback. He wasn't pushy at all. I can't give you a rough figure because I haven't heard back yet.

I'm having 12 windows and 3 doors (composite front door, sliding patio and it's £8400. The front door was the most expensive being composite.

So many variables at play so don't think there is an average place however I had a composite door installed  and 3 window replaced recently and it was just over 3k
  • I had that problem recently too trying to work out even a ballpark figure to see if it was affordable but I decided to bite the bullet and get some quotes from several local companies. For a relatively basic set of 7 windows (A rating casements) and 2 doors (front door composite) for a mid-terrace in East Anglia they're all in the £6,900-7,500 range for broadly the same spec.
I'm currently deciding on whether to just do the lot with one company in one go or whether the saving is worth it to go with one company for the front door and another for the windows and back door and put up with the logistical faff etc.

That sounds pretty close to what I'd be going for, so that sounds like a realistic figure. Thanks.
