Virgin Media to Giganet - Good Decision?

Here's the lowdown...
Current: £24 / 250Mb with Virgin Media
Giganet: £37 / 500Mb (although £55 one off payment). No contract but month 10, 11 and 12 will be free. Brings it down to a out £27 a month (discounting the £55 one off).
Virgin Media offers: £26 / 500Mb. 18 month contract + annual price rise business.
They did offer £20 for 350Mb but I don't mind the extra for the higher speed.
Not sure what to do.
To be fair, Virgin Media have offered quite a competitive deal and we rarely get outages.
But I feel like having something new.
CityFibre has installed in our area but they're finishing the install. When it's finished, obviously I'll be open to a lot more companies, including Giganet's fibre service.
That's what sort of puts me off Virgin Media's 18 month lock.
Any advice?

Depends on what you use your broadband for?
We recently moved from a newish apartment with FTTP (500mb?) to an old house with a FTTC (50mb ish). Both of us work from home with Zoom meetings, and we stream watch on 4K tv and honestly haven't noticed huge differences.
Do you know when CityFibre is fully rolled out? Perhaps worth checking for a cheap contract on FTTC (if you have one!) so you can compare and switch quickly.

One of us works from home.
I'd stay on a 250Mb but many companies are pushing for higher speeds and the difference between 250/300Mb is only a couple of pounds a month for each company.
Less hassle would be to stay with Virgin Media as we just carry on but I sort of lothe calling them up every April saying I don't want the price increase.
However, when talking to the Virgin Media person, they were very clear there would be a price rise so I may not be able be forced j to the rise, which then makes Giganet even more attractive.0
