Energy Supplier Terms

Hi recently switched from OVO to British Gas as the BG terms were "but you won't pay an exit fee if you switch to another British Gas fixed tariff." So, my though was if the customer only price falls in October I just switch to the new rate.  Has anyone considered this and are other suppliers offering such switching terms?

  • It has been suggested that Scottish Power and E.ON Next have the same switching terms - although there are sometimes contradictory reports about E.ON Next.

British Gas have previously said no exit fees if change to any of its tariffs, I have asked them on 2 May tweet if that still applies, 4th July tweet reply seemingly disappeared.

    Hi,
this is from BG, stipulates  switch from fixed to new fix,
    Exit fees:
    £100.00 per fuel
(The exit fee is only charged if you change supplier before the tariff end date or switch to one of our variable tariffs i.e. Standard variable but you won't pay an exit fee if you switch to another British Gas fixed tariff)

Is this from a Chat/Tweet or from the 'real' Ts & Cs?
I suspect it's the former because of the grammatical blunder (should be 'e.g.' not 'i.e.').
  • Hi,
no, I had logged into my account before posting to check the fixed offers, and it's from there.

British Gas often offer different fixed rates to selected/certain customers, no guarantee of being offered a cheaper/cheapest fixed rate at any particular time.

Thanks, @frugalmacdugal I asked because my Fixed Aug 24 v7 tariff says that there are no exit fees if you switch to another BG fixed tariff.
That short version can be interpreted as there IS a fee if you switch to the BG Standard Variable Tariff.
However that's not the case as the full Ts&Cs then go on to explain.
Perhaps some newer tariffs have Ts&Cs that do impose fees if you change to the SVT?
  • Hi,
BG Smart Fix Aug 24 is actually slightly cheaper than BG SVT rates just now,
