I was just contemplating fixing with BG and noticed that they now state they will charge exit fees if you move supplier or return to the BG standard variable tariff, which never used to be the case.
So if you’re contemplating fixing it may be worth keeping in mind.

Apologies if this has been broadcast before, I did do a search prior to posting.

Many of the BG fixed tariffs have had exit fee's for years. probably more common to have them than not. So not sure there has really been a change, so perhaps why you didn't find anything.

British Gas historically have not charged exit fees if subsequently change to any of its other tariffs.

@xzibit Do they specifically say that they will charge exit fee(s) if you change to the SVT, or is that just your interpretation?

It is my interpretation of the following statement on the selected tariff

    Exit fees:
    £100.00 per fuel
(The exit fee is only charged if you change supplier before the tariff end date or switch to one of our variable tariffs i.e. Standard variable but you won't pay an exit fee if you switch to another British Gas fixed tariff)

Previously they have not charged to change to the SVT, as I have enquired on previous fixes and had confirmation of such. Therefore, this appears to be a change in policy.

I think this is a very recent change. Last time I looked at  British Gas tariffs (few weeks ago) there was no mention of paying an exit fee if you switched to a variable tariff. It just mentioned that you would have to pay the exit fee if you moved to a different supplier. Absolute joke, how many billions of pounds in profits have British Gas earnt in the last 2 years while alot of there customers are struggling with the cost of living crisis.

To the nearest billion?  1.  Of which they paid half in tax.

Yes, I switched recently because careful reading of the Ts&Cs showed that going back to the SVT didn't trigger a fee.
However, the fixed BG tariffs now on offer are new ones.
