Road tax gap?

I just bought my vehicle tax, after checking online, it ran out in June.
I was expecting it to start when my old tax ran out. But it started on the 1st August.
I guess I just forgot to renew it. I will look at my bank statement.
I tried to renew with the number on my reminder letter, but it wouldn't accept it, so I did it with the V5
So unless I have already paid, there was a two-month gap!

    Pay by DD and you don't need to worry about forgetting and the potential fines that could give you
    Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

    If it ran out at the end of June and you paid from 1st August, that will be a one month gap. DD is the best way if you are prone to forgetting. You should probably contact them and see if you can get July paid. As you had the reminder letter, there's no real excuse, so you may end up with a fine.

    Not sure why it didn't just carry on from the due date, as it would with your TV license.

    Could it possibly be user error? Not casting aspersions but did you apply for it as a new tax rather than continuation. I haven't applied for road tax on line for a long time so don't know the options, but maybe it's something like that.

    You could never apply for road tax online. It was abolished in 1937. That was before the internet.

    Maybe you should tell DVLA.  Screen shot from my DVLA account just now;

    Ibrahim5 is right.  You've paid for vehicle tax, not for road tax.

    Or more specifically, Vehicle Excise Duty.

    Yawn. It's funny how I passed my driving test in 1988 and somehow I know it as road tax. It's almost as if everyone other than the pedants do as well.

    OP, I'd try and get hold of them on the phone, see if you can get it paid and head off any potential fine.
