When you go on your EON account, and go to meter readings, what do your last meter readings say under each fuel for 'Type'?Kayla36 said:My current direct debit is around £30 per month. They suspended it for 10 months until last May because my account was in credit. It resumed last May but I only got around checking my account this month and saw that it was still in credit even though the direct debit had resumed.
'Smart', 'Estimate' or 'Manual'?0 -

Then are you sure they said your balance was £230? Or did they just say that £230 was the maximum they would refund?Kayla36 said:
My last bill was dated 21st July. I doubt I spent £137 between 21st July and 10th August.CSI_Yorkshire said:
You have used £150 of energy since your last bill.Kayla36 said:
Can someone shed some light on how it went from £370 to £230? I have asked them but they are not replying.
Credit gets added on the day you send them money.
Credit gets taken off on the day they bill you.
Your actual balance is only right on that second day.0 -
Are you entering the readings on the website or has someone came out to read them and do they match the actual meters.Kayla36 said:

If the readings are all correct, then it just seems like your original direct debit had been set too high or are they potentially over-estimated (and still are) your usage. You are free to set your direct debit amount as you see appropriate if you disagree with their suggestion. Many people on this forum calculate their annual usage and set the direct debit as they see fit.Know what you don't0 -

Sometimes, I also send a picture of the meter when they ask me.0 -
That's quite odd then. An accurate balance of £370 on 21 July changing to another accurate balance of £230 on 10 August.Kayla36 said:

Have you tried calculating what you think your balance should be based on meter readings today compared with the last bill?0 -
I’ve never actually had any problems with Eon. I sent a WhatsApp, asked for a refund, they calculated the current owed credit and I asked for an amount leaving ~£200 as a winter buffer and they arranged a refund with no quibble at all
they were also fine in reducing my direct debit when I asked
if I’d have requested the full amount as a refund then I could understand pushback as we are in lower usage as it’s not Winter1 -
Like Andy above, I had ramped up a fair amount of credit after all the largesse that the government put into my account over the winter.
Did my own sums, worked out what I though was a reasonable refund, leaving £200 in credit and it was refunded within a day or so.
Same with my DD, I did the sums based on what I use over the year using the current Price Cap rates, divided it by 12 and that's what Eon take every month.
It's not really ever so difficult to do your own sums and then present them to your supplier rather than whinging about their guesstimates. It just takes a bit of effort.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
You shouldn't have to do this though. It's ridiculous. They have readings , from a smart meter. They can see the usage. By day, by hour I guess if they want to. They should be able to get the DD about right.matelodave said:Like Andy above, I had ramped up a fair amount of credit after all the largesse that the government put into my account over the winter.

I've done what you're saying to do. All good. Two weeks later get a message saying , we need to put up to your DD. Actually they wanted to double it. Even though it was already slightly too high, and the account nearly £400 in credit.0 -
Yeah, not everyone monitors like we do and the risk is that people don’t think of winter months and that they should be in credit now, but it’s how much credit. I pay, roughly, £145 a month so I base the buffer on having about double that ready for winter. I’m guessing given the current challenges, companies are more averse to letting people go into negative or low balance (just a guess though
however, I’m also not a bank for them, credit reduces my risk but I can also get 5% interest in easy access so am not going to get too much buffer!
so, I guess showing the calculations and why gives them more confidence but I am in no doubt I may have been lucky in the operators and I will monitor to increase if I need to

How often does that happen ?,if you don't mind my asking.Kayla36 said:

Been with Eon Next since October 2021 and never been asked to send photos,I have taken photos though, purely for my own peace of mind should they be necessary at some future point in time.
Having said that I've had smart meters fitted since this June so no need for the spanish inquisition regarding readings,thusfar.0
