EON credit refund

Hi, I wonder if someone can help me understand something. A couple of days ago, I contacted EON for a refund because my account balance was over £370 in credit.

I pay by monthly direct debit.

They replied and said that my account was around £230 and that they would refund me that amount.

Can someone shed some light on how it went from £370 to £230? I have asked them but they are not replying.

Thank you

  • Do you have a smart meter or recent readings and did they take those perhaps to understand your current balance rather than what the credit says there is?

Likely they have billed up to date before issuing a refund, their usual practice.

You have used £150 of energy since your last bill.

Credit gets added on the day you send them money.

Credit gets taken off on the day they bill you.

Your actual balance is only right on that second day.
  • I actually took this a s a good reminder to ask for a partial refund and they did a bill to date and my credit dropped by about £150 so that is a real impact

My last bill was dated 21st July. I doubt I spent £137 between 21st July and 10th August.

My current direct debit is around £30 per month. They suspended it for 10 months until last May because my account was in credit. It resumed last May but I only got around checking my account this month and saw that it was still in credit even though the direct debit had resumed.

Keep banging your head against the immovable wall that is EON.

Now's possibly the time to look for a switch to an alternative supplier?

Then are you sure they said your balance was £230?  Or did they just say that £230 was the maximum they would refund?

When you go on your EON account, and go to meter readings, what do your last meter readings say under each fuel for 'Type'?

    'Smart', 'Estimate' or 'Manual'?
