smart meter feed in

Options
We have had solar installed for over a year now & signed up to Octopus feed in tariff of 15p per kw, we had smart meter installed but cant receive WAN signal, now octopus telling us we will not receive any export tariff as no connection to smart meter . The new meter installed tells us what has been exported ,surely they can use this for payment, they have to rely on us sending monthly readings for gas & electric. its over 1200kw we have exported in a few months ! Any help greatly appreciated .

Octopus's SEG rate is around 5p/kWh.
It sounds as though you have signed up for Outgoing Fixed, which is 15p/kWh. It's possible that this tariff requires a working smart meter; you should check your T&Cs.

Hi , thanks for reply. Yes we require a smart meter & got one fitted but it won’t send signal to WAN ? So Octopus won’t pay the 15p a k/w export . We can see on smart meter what we ve exported over 1300kw since smart meter installed but they won’t take manual reading but happy to take our meter readings for gas & electric. 😕

Don’t give up on this one. This is what it states in the SEG Guidance to Suppliers: (Note para 3.5)

But will the tariff come under SEG Rules?

Will they class the 5p as the official SEG and the 15p as a normal tarrif not subject to SEG rules?

Seems that's how they are trying to treat it anyway .

I confess that I have no idea what you are talking about? All export tariffs outwith the FIT Scheme come under the Ofgem Guidance to Suppliers on SEG. Suppliers are allowed to set their own SEG unit prices. For example, on one tariff Octopus pays up to 32p/kWh for exported electricity. Some suppliers offer a low SEG tariff for customers not on supply.

3.6 Seems to give them the power to say this is the rules for this tariff, So Get lost.

How is that relevant? Smart meters do not need a WAN connection to record usage. Any smart meter export reading provided is not an estimate.

Smart meter OK but poor radio signal reception issues for Export / Import tariffs.

Our meter seems fine and tells our solar system everything - at 5 minute intervals. For feed-in/Export to perform, or any tariff which requires the time of day/night to be known, the supplier needs reliable half-hourly data. Unfortunately, I'm told the meter signal Up North relies on a radio signal to reach Octopus and our signal is patchy - and radio can't be boosted like a phone signal can. The supplier won't accept our very reliable data and insists on data direct from the meter. An outfit called Data Communications Company seem to be responsible for passing the signal to Octopus, or any other supplier. DCC don't accept customer queries and nobody else seems to know what, when or even if, signal transmission will be improved. Does anyone have knowledge of what can be done to resolve this problem??

The supplier is not allowed to accept your data, which they have no way of knowing is accurate or reliable.  Of course they want the data to come from their meter, it's the only place it is allowed to.
