Conversion rates for car hire

Options
I have been looking at booking car hire for Greece, I found some great prices but they want me to pay a deposit and then pay the balance on arrival. My concern is they have quoted in GBP but I have to pay in local currency, will my credit card convert the balance or will the car hire company quote me cost in EUR at their own rate? At least when it is in EUR I know the value on my prepaid card.
I'm a bit confused on how this will work, I don't want find what I thought was a £400 balance to be much more.
I hope someone can help.

Is there an option for them to quote in €?  Sometimes there are options on the top right hand side of the webpage.  Paying in € is likely to be your best option.  Have you tried Zest?  They are recommended by quite a few people I know.

It depends on the site but normally the car hire rate will be in the local currency (EUR in Greece). The booking site will be taking their deposit amount and will have converted to GBP for convenience.

So the EUR amount quoted to pay the hire company should be just that.

Which credit cards do you own? Best to get one that doesn't charge fees; such as Halifax Clarity. If a debit card is acceptable, there is Starling, Revolut, Chase Bank...
