Deadly gripper rods, how to dispose of them?

HI,
removing the carpets from my bedrooms I noticed those terrible gripper rods with nails above and below the wood rod.
They are a nightmare to remove, but especially how can I dispose of them without anyone getting hurt? As they are now surely they can't go to the general waste. Even trying to remove the nails one by one seems destined to fail.
Thanks

We just put ours in the general waste - they're not going to be in human contact before ending up in landfill.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3660

I remove them by hitting the wood on the side till they come loose. Then take them down the tip. Wear gloves when picking them up.0

The people collecting garbage could get hurt, unless the rods are wrapped in carpet.I have to check with my Council if I can dispose of carpets in the general waste (wishful thinking).0

If someone really wants to rummage in a wheelie bin then good luck to them !Wheelie bins solve most of the "people getting hurt by objects" problems, no human contact once placed in there.2

Where do you live? Reference to 'garbage' suggests it may not be the UK.

Do any of your neighbours have a wheelie bin? If so ask them kindly if you can put them in.
Alternatively wrap them in a little bit of carpet and leave them beside your bag, or ask the council for a special uplift, or take them to the dump.0 -

Take them to the waste and recycling centre, ask which skip to throw them in. For removing a pry bar (https://www.screwfix.com/p/magnusson-utility-bar-15-/4594v other shops and brands available) makes light work of them; tap the bar to get it under the strip at a fixing nail then pop it up then use the bar to loosen any other fixing nails and lift the strip out.0
