Need help regarding diamonds sold to a shop please.

I’ll double check with my relative, but I’m sure that’s what they said. I know 100% the shop owner cut the diamonds off and threw them in the bin, but I’m sure it was before they’d agreed to sell them because I think he was weighing the gold and claimed they were cubic zirconia and glass so were junk. I may be wrong, but I’ll double check.Okell said:
So the buyer "destroyed the ring in front of" your relative before they'd agreed to sell it?momtotwo87 said:They haven’t offered them for sale as they destroyed the ring in front of them (before they’d even agreed to sell it to them). I know there’s nothing they can do, so I’ll just tell them that.Thank you all for your help.
Really?
Sounds like an issue for the police. And the insurance valuation might come into play...

I’ve spoken to my relative, they had their partner go into the shop as they’re disabled and was at home. The partner said they didn’t cut it up first, but I could have sworn they originally said they did- to weight the gold without the extra weight of the diamonds. I obviously must be mistaken.Okell said:

That's the problem when stories are passed on second/ third hand.momtotwo87 said:

OP has now confirm this wasn't the case.RefluentBeans said:
Agree with this - if this was done before they sold I would think it was properly damage and potentially putting the sale under duress. Seems odd, even for a dodgy business, to do that.Okell said:
