Easyjet June 4 debacle compensation

We had a cancelled flight by Easyjet I( Paris to London) on the June 4 weekend where may 1000s were cancelled. (can't find a thread) . they claimed it was weather so not eligible for compensation but other airline flights were going and it seemed to be more to do with staffing especially it was cancelled only 1/2 hour before it was to have taken off. We had to go on a replacement flight two days later. We have put in the expense claim - and heard nothing.
However my main question is about the compensation - we should be eligible but has anyone been able to prove it was not exceptional circumstances on Jun4 ?
