Do you have a next door type group near you. https://nextdoor.co.uk/news_feed We have one and there are always people who are willing to help those in need.

Call the council,  they are desperately trying to reduce fly tipping so will collect bulky items. Our council will do a couple of collections a year for free and then £10 after that.

Councils won't collect from inside the property, hence the problem.

OP, without sounding too rude, have you looked at organisations like Help the Aged (if appropriate) or other charities. We have a local neighbourhood help team that do all sorts of small tasks like this for a range of people. Maybe worth a look on Face Book, or if you get one of those free local services magazines.

    Thanks for the replies

It's a small room, so the £10 "bribe" and the council uplift is my best bet. That way I don't have to go without a sofa for a few days :-)
greyteam1959 was referring to the charity volunteers delivering the "new" sofa, so the £10 for taking the old sofa away will be a donation to the charity.

PS You will be only asking the charity guys to take the old sofa to the street for the Council to collect.

Are there no neighbours that could help? Or if it’s an elderly persons complex, perhaps you have a neighbour that’s got family that might?

Asking the delivery guys to carry it out is probably my best chance
  • Is a TaskRabbit or AirTasker an option for you? No idea on costs though!

I'll have a look at that. Thanks
  • I hired a man with a van to collect my replacement sofa and take off my front door to then take out the old sofa and bring in the new sofa, and the door put back on all for a £20. I timed it so that the old sofa was put on my front wall which I covered in plastic sheeting for the council bulky waste to pick up next door. They charged £20 per 5 items.
