Broadband and phone providers that are unable to retain your landline number from Now aka Sky?

Options
Shell energy is one as I’ve just found out.

Is the problem created by Sky/Now or Shell energy? Why is it a problem? I thought it was standard practice to be able to choose whether to keep your existing number if service is at same address!?

It’s important to me to keep my existing number of many years.

Thanks for any illumination.

I contacted ofcom and they said an existing provider cannot withhold my existing number if I wanted to retain it but a new provider is within their rights to refuse to transfer the number. Meaning Shell energy won’t transfer my existing number to them as a commercial decision?

I've switched from Plusnet to Shell in the last 2 months and Shell arranged the transfer of the landline number without any problem.  From memory the question is part of the application process, and is confirmed in the emails received to confirm the new service.

I phoned Shell energy again, same CS seemed somewhat aggrieved. Explained that she’ll energy DO transfer number over from other providers EXCEPT FOR SKY because in the past Sky always thwarted the process so now they don’t offer it.

If true Sky are in contravention of ofcom rules. Although I transferred my number from Sky to plusnet a few years back without issue so it’s all as clear as mud.

Tried a dry run to go with plusnet and they did offer to retain my landline number. So Shell energy is either telling porkies or Sky are frustrating any attempt by She’ll to transport existing numbers. Highly unlikely Sky would risk doing that being against ofwat  regulations which leaves Shell energy in the frame?

A friend has informed of the news that Shell Energy is up for sale, there’s a news story from June here on mse I’ve found. Glad now they wouldn’t transfer my number from Sky, think I’ve dodged a bullet.

No wonder they are offering cheap broadband deals to fatten up the books for takeover but after that it’s unknown territory, bet my cashback would disappear as it takes 120 days to get I think would a new company honour it, not going to check again, also the Amazon voucher. Then the April 3.9% plus cpi in contract price increase ? con, not going to check, and it all starts to look very unappealing.
