Dolor, the smart meter reading guide was of no use to me or the staff at Octopus. None of them knew how to read my meter and that included the technical team. I have no idea about court orders. I just worry when I get these emails saying haven't responded when I have, It's probably something that goes with being old.
    Don't mess with pensioners.

What make and model of smart meter do you have? Someone here will be able to help.

Not all CS team members are smart meter trained. If you want specific smart meter advice, the email is smart.help@octopus.energy  If Octopus can’t provide meter reading advice, what makes you think that another supplier will do any better?

Not receiving emails has probably more to do with your email provider and its SPAM settings than being old. I say that as someone who has been retired for 16 years.

Disconnections don’t just happen. There is a process of discussion and notification before a supplier applies to a Court for a Warrant of Entry to your property to disconnect your meter. Suppliers, after getting legal advice, decided some years ago it was too risky to disconnect supplies remotely.

    Hi @mrsyardbroom ...

I'm sorry I'm not able to give any specific advice or tips, but I thought you might be interested in a couple of links ...

    https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/energy-companies/article/best-and-worst-energy-companies/which-energy-survey-results-ajqM43e6ycY8

... as you can see the answer is Octopus.

    https://octopus.energy/help-and-faqs/articles/what-extra-support-is-available-to-customers-in-vulnerable-circumstances/

... some companies give you special caring treatment if you're on the PSR, something I've benefitted from. I can see Octopus's intentions are good.

Just to add my personal experience (currently with EDF), EDF are poor, E.ON Next extremely poor.

Will people stop saying "you should be with Octopus" in response to someone saying "I do not want to be with Octopus, I want to try another supplier".

We know you are all massively evangelical about your supplier, but it is not helping.

The problem is - nobody can suggest a company who generally gives better customer service

Not British Gas- my mum has had awful trouble not receiving any bills for over 9 months, them sending debt letters for bills that were never sent, they keep her on hold 2 hours and then cut her off… still unresolved now.

In short, there aren't any supply companies with good customer service. So just try one, move on and try the next. I've tried them all over the years.
  • We know you are all massively evangelical about your supplier, but it is not helping.

For someone of the OP’s posted age, a parent would no doubt have told her ‘better the Devil that you know rather than one that you don’t’. That is what my late Mum used to say to all of her 4 children along with ‘frying pan into the fire’.  It is always worth taking a moment to reflect before making any decision.

The truth is that nobody knows until things go awry how good or bad a supplier’s CS is. Even then a CS response may not be indicative of how a supplier normally works.

  • So this leads onto which companies offer a referral bonus.

The OP could switch then move around after payment til they find the right supplier?

As long as you are fastidious with meter readings and keeping on top of the switch happy days might make yourself a few quid.

Are you the same Dolor forum member Summer 2021 when on very cheap Octopus electricity tariff switched gas to Zog Energy for cheaper fixed rate with exit fees or I thinking of another Dolor with similar username.

Nothing wrong with that I did same myself ( as have others who champion Octo cause on forum) kept one fuel with Octopus switched other fuel out to make better gains, I am just pointing out some are not as not as loyal to Octopus as is being portrayed.( no reason why anyone should be either)
