There has to be a max amount that can be taken out?poppy12345 said:R200 said:There is max amount that is allowed to be taken from UC and if you are already there then no more can be takenThat doesn't apply to 3rd party deductions. The DWP can make third party deductions in respect of a maximum of three different debts at one time.
what if it takes up more than 50% of someone’s UC? They would not be able to pay rent or bills or buy food0 -
That question has already been answerred here ^^HillStreetBlues said:
There are different levels of deductions depending on what it is for, the range is 5% to 20% , for fines the maximum is 5% of UC, the court can not demand more to be taken from UC. The most that can now be taken from UC is 25% in total (so that would be a least two deductions).poppy12345 said:R200 said:
If you can make a case that it would put your family in extreme financial distress then it will be reversedpoppy12345 said:R200 said:There is max amount that is allowed to be taken from UC and if you are already there then no more can be takenThat doesn't apply to 3rd party deductions. The DWP can make third party deductions in respect of a maximum of three different debts at one time.
not hard these days with raging inflation
This is a court fine you're talking about here which may not be able to be reduced. Other deductions maybe able to be reduced. (if you have them) Edit to add, UC wouldn't be able to reduce that payment because they are told what needs to be taken by the court. You will need to contact the court for that.

Do agree with you that if deduction is 5% or less then would have to go to the court direct. So will depend of the percentage of deduction, so OP will need to check that (EDIT not including hardship, I missed that bit)

Does that ever happen arrears of fuel costs taken out of your UC?0

So it seems the maximum amount is already being taken from a few separate court fines and a lower amount (half) is being taken which means it would have been paid off in another 13 weeks but now will take another 26 weeks. All due to this new one being added on 😢
There are other requests to take money from the UC but they can’t due to the maximum amount already being taken.
will these other requests wait the 26 weeks and then start taking out of the UC?
surely if someone is having the maximum amount already being taken out then the other requests should be turned down by DWP?
Some people will just be having the maximum amount deducted from their UC all the time and any other requests will be denied.
No wonder record amount of rent defaults are now happening0 -
It maybe a good idea to head across to the debt free wannabe board. There's some very knowledgeable people over there. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/debt-free-wannabe

Debts are not my problem, my problem is that there is not enough left of my UC to live on. I’ve now got a decision making looking my claim that these deductions will put me into extreme financial distresspoppy12345 said:It maybe a good idea to head across to the debt free wannabe board. With all due respect. With a few separate court fines debt does seem to be an issue for you.

If your outgoings are more than you've got coming in then it's not a long term sustainable position to be in. The only way to change this is to spend less, earn more or hopefully both of them, there is no other way..R200 said:

The debt free wanablee board regulars are excellent at offering help not only with problem debts but ways to prevent debts growing or occurring in the first place so @poppy12345 's suggestion to post there was excellent advice.

We could keep our head above water if we got all our UC
for the next 26 weeks we are having 25% deductions and this is why we have rent areas.
as soon as we can stop the deductions we will be able to pay full rent again0
