Moving Away from the Well Known Brands - Caution Advised?

Looks like I may be moving to a lesser known company from Virgin Media as unless they can give me an amazing deal, then there is no incentive to stay with them any more.

Are there any people who have gone from well known companies to much smaller ones and it's been a fabulous success?

Moved from VM to Cityfibre about 5 months ago.  Signed up with a very local ISP I was aware of and no issues with install, all working fine.  Within a month the local provider had sold their residential book to a different provider I have never heard of and that's always a danger with smaller outfits.

I have had two lengthy outages, the last a few weeks ago was about 5 days, but that was due to a Cityfibre infrastructure strike, not the ISP.  They answered the phone and gave updates but not much they could do.
