Have you tried it without the filter? I don't see why it's needed in your case - no landline phones. Yes, they are ugly things! No idea how much OR would charge to fit one. I presume 'normal' sparkies aren't allowed to? Since you have no other extensions fitted, it is a two-wire jobbie, but still, roolsRrools.
I only saw 1 black wire going into the socket with 2 simple thin wires attached so a 2 second job.
While we don't use telephone, apparently a filter is still needed to connect RJ11 to a telephone socket for internet. We have been spoilt last few years with a full FTTP service!
I have to 'fess that I did fit my own NTE5 with ADSL since it was a 2-wire jobbie, and I know how to connect 2 wires with a relative degree of competence. But I'm not at all suggesting that anyone else does this.
It also won't be as simple as wiring a plug as the connections are (usually) press-in (it's called something) and you really really should use the correct tool. I don't know if they make screw-terminal versions?
And, the wires carry ~50 volts - that's enough to, um, er, sometimes be detected as a tingle by sweaty fingers - which they will be, because you know there's someone at the other end of the line detecting what's going on....
