Fridge freezer working fine, is it worth replacing it, though?

  • If your fridge freezer is in a heated room in your house, then bear in mind any extra energy it uses will go to heat the house. In winter, 'saving' that energy will mean your heating system will use the same amount of energy to heat the house instead. In the worst case, where the main heating is electric, this could cancel out effectively all the cost savings during the part of the year when the heating is on. You might still save money if your space heating is done by gas or a heat pump, though.

I am disappointed by the tapo p110. It does record consumption, but it doesn't have a scale. According to it my fridge is using up less that 2kwh per day...
I have spoken with tech support and they say I need to know the wattage in order to set it (then it should work fine), but what can I use of known wattage as a baseline? It seems rather absurd.

What they are telling you doesn't make any sense to me.

2kWh per day might not be wrong though - that's 700kWh per year, which could be correct for an old fridge.

Well, overnight the consumption is about 1.5kwh. if it isn't the fridge, I don't know what it could be... Besides, if this background consumption accounts for 4.5kwh/day I most certainly need to do something about it as it is huge.

Does this energy consumption make sense? The wattage seems very low indeed.

That's not energy usage, that's instant power usage.

You need the energy usage tab for that.

Although that power sort of adds up to just under 2kWh per day.

    Sorry, I meant power.
The other tab does say just shy of 2kwh.
    Do these numbers make sense?

They're within the range that I have seen for old fridges and freezers.

So now I need to find out what is sucking so much power...

The Tapo only measures what is plugged into it - if that's what you're using to get these numbers then you already know.
