Has anyone had this happen ?

Options
I’m an occasional eBay seller, just personal items I no longer want.

I recently listed a few craft items, which ended last Saturday.  I had an offer on one than I accepted from a buyer who then won another of my auctions.

I sent them an invoice for the items combined to give them cheaper postage.  The address was a UK address.  They haven’t paid so I’ve just gone to send them a reminder and the address has been changed to a USA address, I don’t ship outside of the UK and this is on my auction settings.

There was a flag at the top of the screen saying buyer was in a location I haven’t put postage charges on the listing for, which is because I don’t ship to that location.  I have cancelled the sale as problem with the buyers address, and have messaged the buyer to let them know this.

I didn’t think you could change the address after you had won something.  I’ve checked the other couple of items I have up for sale and the postage settings are correct.  So I’m a bit confused by this, and am wondering if I have missed something.

I have changed the delivery address on items after purchase, when you pay you can select different delivery addresses in paypal.

I have also changed my address but eBay used to block it being changed to a different country. It could be a glitch or just the new way of doing it now that sellers have the option to cancel a sale due to address issues.

Thanks for the responses, hopefully I don’t get any negative feedback for cancelling the sale.

To be honest, I am finding eBay more and more difficult with all the changes, I don’t sell very often and find it very confusing, the items I currently have on will be the last items I list, as I can’t be bothered with the hassle anymore.  So it probably won’t matter if I get negative feedback.

They changed the address to a international mail forwarding address maybe?

That would still show a UK address though , usually a storage site near an airport.

I wonder if it was originally via the GSP, so you shouldn't have been able to send an invoice because each item goes separately, but it glitched and let you send an invoice and that changed the address to their home address taking it out of the GSP.

    Very weird, whatever actually happened.
  • If you can change the delivery address where does the seller stand in terms of seller protection. Do they have to ship to the original address, or if the address is changed when the buyer pays with Paypal are we back to shipping to the Paypal address?

As long as you ship to the address showing once buyer has paid you are fine. I often used to buy things for my mother or my sons at uni , and change the delivery address before I paid. So my original address would have been my home address, but the postage address would be the uni or my mothers house.

You can use a different address when sending payment by PayPal, this is the address that the seller will be told to send the item to.  What you can't do is message a seller and ask them to send the item to a different address, the item would not be covered against loss or damage if they did.

In my case, the buyer hadn’t paid.  When I sent the first invoice it had a UK address, and when I went to send the reminder it had changed to a USA address, I’m thinking the buyer had changed it thinking I would send a postage cost to the USA.  I did message the buyer to say I didn’t post to the USA and had cancelled the sale.  I haven’t heard anything, I’ll update on here if I do.
