Long stopover in JFK

thanks for that it was £400 cheaper than the alternative flight[Deleted User] said:That's one awful flight setup - bad enough at the same airport but to change airport too.
They won't get utility from a overnight hotel room so book for daytime only and do something like this -* Arrive 12am at Penn Station (Midtown Manhattan) from Newark* Leave luggage at hotel, go for lunch/sightseeing.* Use the daytime room for shower/ change/ maybe siesta.* Check out early evening & leave luggage with the hotel.* Spend a few more hours sightseeing and a late dinner.* Collect luggage from hotel and head to JFK late evening on the A/E trains from Penn Station to Airtrain.* Arrive JFK, check in bags and then grab a drink/beverage or head to lounge for 2/3 hours then head to gate.
I'd actually look for a later flight back so they can get a whole day/night in NYC.0 -
Perhaps a little pedantic, but 12am (or 12pm for that matter) is ambiguous and can legitimately be interpreted to signify midnight rather than midday - it obviously doesn't matter in the context of an arrival time in a notional itinerary, but when OP didn't specify am or pm earlier on, and the suggested schedule would entail use of a hotel room during the day rather than at night, it'll be important for the traveller to be clear when making any arrangements![Deleted User] said:* Arrive 12am at Penn Station (Midtown Manhattan) from Newark0 -
If there's enough notice (say a month) they can book a Big Apple Greeter to show them round ( they're local volunteers with good knowledge of the city`).

The issue as I see it is the luggage. Manhattan is always busy, but when it's hot and you're tired and miserable it's much less fun - and dragging suitcases around won't help.No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.1 -
Good to see a fellow pedant as I was also about to point out that 12am is midnight!eskbanker said:

Thank you all for your advice. In the end she just waited at the airport - too tired to do anything else.
There were loads of other people in the terminal. Rosa_Damascena said:
