Lots of people do not have telephone lines and opt to use mobile devices, so no... the land line is not an essential service.

The problem isn't Openreach... they have not requested any work be done to the property. The fault purely lies the feet at the project manager/builder/person responsible for the building alterations not including the work involved to move the master socket to a new location.

Getting it done 'proper like' will cost a bob or two, but any competent builder used to cabling, or a sparkie could move it, and I doubt Openreach would even know.

Does the cable need to be altered though?   Cut the window frame to free the cable and position the
box in a suitable location that does not require the wiring to be altered. If the wiring goes between the brick
and door panels make a note of where they are just in case someone decides to drill there in the future.

May require an extension internally but those are cheap.

Is there a socket or is just a fibre cable?

Thanks, hadn't realised the need for multiple power sockets - up to 4 !
