Hey dudes,

My mum has a 2015 honda jazz......and the handbrake warning light stays on when you release the handbrake but at much less intensity, it dims in essence but stays on.

I've checked the brake fluid level, no issue there....so what might it be?

Is it pad wear?  I wasn't aware that year had an electronic wear indicator.

  • Is the handbrake working correctly? Park it on a hill and test it.  There are some useful pointers on this website, https://www.wheelswisdom.com/kb/parking-brake-hand-brake-light-stays-on/#:~:text=Faulty%20Switch%3A%20One%20common%20reason,will%20need%20to%20be%20replaced.

Why would the light change intensity then?  Surely it would stay the same if it was on or off?

I don't have it to hand as the car is at mothers......I don't think it has wear indication....fairly basic model.

Kia Picante used to come on when ABS sensors were corroded, but need to check the HB really.

Hmmm, well the manual isn't much help.

It just says if the light stays on there could be a brake problem.

Could be low fluid, but that has a seperate warning light and has been checked so it isn't that.  Not ABS as that has a seperate warning light.

It could be the sensor is faulty in the brake fluid reservoir.

Generally if the fluid starts to get low, the light will flicker when braking and cornering as the fluid sloshes around.
Then once it's dropped low enough, it stays on.

If there's a fault with the sensor, is can stay on.

Older cars had a float sensor in/as part of the cap.
Newer cars have sensors built into the reservoir but with either you can test the sensor with a multimeter.
With a full reservoir it should be an open circuit.
With an empty reservoir it's a closed circuit.

As it's dimly lit, it's worth checking and cleaning the connection to it first.
