Your state pension is paid 4 weekly in arrears.
You can opt for weekly in arrears if you prefer.

Though you cannot choose which day you get paid, you can actually decide your payment frequency. Three quarters of all pensioners are paid four weeks in arrears, but it can also be paid weekly, though this is not normally mentioned during the application process.
If you would like to get your pension weekly, then while applying you should write "Please pay my pension weekly" in the "other information" box. If you're already claiming your pension monthly and want to change it to every seven days, you can contact the Pension Service on telephone: 0800 731 7898 or textphone: 0800 731 7339.

piggy backing on this thread...
I see that I should receive notice of my SP start date asking if I want to apply for it about 3 months before my relevant birthday. So if my birthday is 1st November then presumably I would get my notice sometime this week (ish)?"Never retract, never explain, never apologise; get things done and let them howl.”

How to claim
You will not get your new State Pension automatically - you have to claim it.
You’ll need:
- the date of your most recent marriage, civil partnership or divorce
- the dates of any time spent living or working abroad
- your bank or building society details
If you’re applying online, you’ll also need the invitation code from the letter about getting your State Pension.
If you have not received an invitation letter but you are within 3 months of reaching your State Pension age, you can request an invitation code.

thanks @xylophone so am I correct in thinking I should likely get a letter in the next week or so? Obviously I can diary this and if it's not received I can request it as they suggest. Just curious about the actual timing of these things.
