In that case you should be fine. But leaving a card unused for over a year can cause some issuers to consider them dormant.
As has been pointed out already a DD is considered cancelled if not used in 13 months.Life in the slow lane0 -
It's 24 months now, as molerat has pointed out, earlier.born_again said:In that case you should be fine. But leaving a card unused for over a year can cause some issuers to consider them dormant.

If Nationwide have cancelled the authorisation for whatever reason such that MBNA does not show up in your DD list then any attempt by MBNA to collect money will fail.
Cancel the DD at MBNA end and set it up again0 -
Just to update this:- my DD was taken today, over 2 years since the last time it was taken. It shows on Nationwide as First Payment. So I don't know if MBNA set it up again, Nationwide allow exceptions to the rules or what, but I know I'll be safe to leave the minimum payment by DD in subsequent months.Nebulous2 said:I'm in a similar position - have an MBNA card I haven't used for a long time, and I've taken £5k from it on a 0% offer.
My DD is still there, but it was last used in early 2021. I've made a minimum payment direct to the card, so if the DD doesn't go through at least I've made my payment. If my DD goes through okay I'll let it take the strain in subsequent months.

MBNA will just resend the mandate. If it fell off due to non usage then it should be fine, as it was. If you had actively cancelled the DD at you bank and it was the same mandate from MBNA they'd have probably rejected it. I say probably because the time lapsed might mean your bank no longer had it as rejected DD mandate.Nebulous2 said:
