Credit card not used for a long time - Direct debit not on bank account

I have an MBNA credit card that I haven't used for a long time but I might start using it again.

I have checked the direct debit settings on the card account and it's correct.

However the MBNA doesn't show up in my list of authorised DD on my bank account.

It's possible that I might have deleted it when doing some housekeeping a long time ago - I don't remember doing that but otherwise I don't know why it's not there.

Does that mean I need to call MBNA and get them to somehow re-request it, otherwise the payment will be rejected when I start using it again?

You'd need to set it up again if it's expired.

DDs are cancelled after 13 months of non usage.

The payment won't be rejected, it just won't be made.

I'm not sure what the difference is between rejected and not made?

Anyway to be totally clear about it, on the MBNA web site, my DD is still showing up as correct with my correct sort code and account number.  However I don't see MBNA showing up on the list of DD providers in Nationwide (nor in the list of cancelled DD).

I'm in a similar position - have an MBNA card I haven't used for a long time, and I've taken £5k from it on a 0% offer.

My DD is still there, but it was last used in early 2021. I've made a minimum payment direct to the card, so if the DD doesn't go through at least I've made my payment. If my DD goes through okay I'll let it take the strain in subsequent months.

Well, it only takes a minute or two to set it up again,,,, as along as you can find one of those pesky 'authorisation machines' in a cupboard somewhere... or a NatWest or Barclays one.

DD inactivity cancellation is now 24 months, changed during the plague and has not been put back to the old 13 months.

A payment needs to be made in order for the recipient to reject it.

If the DD isn't valid at Nationwide, the payment won't be made to MBNA if they request it.

Ok - but in this situation, it seems like if I start using the card again and just trust the DD, there's a risk I'll end up getting a penalty (and losing my interest free period) if the bank doesn't pay the DD.

To be safe, what I ave done is logged into the MBNA website, cancelled the direct debit on their side, and then re-instated it again.  Hopefully this will trigger them to set it up again with the bank.

That's the right thing to do - but be aware it will take some time to set up, so he ready to make a manual payment if the statement doesn't confirm the new DD will be taken. You'll need at least a couple of weeks before the statement for it to be in place.

Give it a couple of statement cycles to be safe.

Make a purchase, pay it off. Then reset the DD.
It could be that they deem the card dormant, which can cause problems. Some require in these situation you go through the application process again.

This is one reason to once every couple of months to use your cards, to keep them active & ensure they do not go dormant.

Do you mean MBNA consider the card dormant of my bank?  I don't think MBNA would consider the card as dormant because I had a discussion with them about cancelling the card, and they offered my 6 months interest free to keep the card.
