Well that doesn't sound very friendly. You came here looking for guidance and we have offered it freely and politely, giving you several options for how to deal with your perceived problem.
You might like to review the forum rules here. In particular rule #1:
    1. Keep it kind and keep it clean.
Be respectful, polite, friendly and mindful of the impact of your posts to other community members, Forum Ambassadors and MSE staff – everyone is human here. This rule is non-negotiable.

I apologise if I have offended anybody.
I am thankful for the advice and I think I have said so.
But I have also asked it to stop but that's being ignored.
Do you think that is "mindful of the impact of your posts to other community members"?
So it could be argued that I am being offended myself !
The repeat postings are just irritating now and are driving me crazy.
I doubt I will ever post on this forum again.
The thing is, even though you were the original poster, you don't control the thread and if/when people choose to reply.

Discussions often go off on a tangent and address similar issues that you might not find relevant, or people might provide their own experience on something that's already been brought up.

Things that come up later in a thread might be useful for other readers who come across the posts in future.  Sometimes a new poster comes into the end of your thread with a new question.

If it's the notifications that are bugging you, then you can turn them off - I don't know exactly how in this new system but it used to be on a cog on the front of the thread iirc.  Then you can happily ignore anything the rest of us write here for as long as you wish.
Personally, I would be polite and stop if that's what the OP wanted - but maybe that's just me.
Discussions should not go off at a tangent and, if they do, the mods should stop it - that's what happens on other forums, often starting up a new thread.
Well, not much original has come up here - in fact the same things are repeated over and over again just wasting everybody's time.
I've left notifications on because, although irritating, it's interesting to see what gives on MSE forums.

It's a shame we are no longer discussing the actual subject but about the ethics, or not, of posting.
Getting too much like Twitter - God forbid !

And yet this is your fifth post since.

And this is why there ends up being tens of almost but not quite identical threads, with very similar advice needing to be given repeatedly - whereas keeping related things together and using the search often ends up better for everyone overall.

That requires heavier and more active moderation than MSE provides. I suspect you're thinking of forums that directly support businesses, like eg. the OVO support forum. Businesses can pay for substantial forum moderation as it's still cheaper than providing proper customer support.
MSE has some threads that are still active more than a decade after the original post, and threads where the OP has long since left the forum (willingly or otherwise).

  • Email from Scottish Power is asking me to increase my direct debit when I was £166 in credit on 30th June (at end of fix). If I do not do so, they are going to do it anyway - up by £36/month. This is daylight robbery isn't it? Is it even legal? Increasing their own coffers at my expense !
I rang them today but they refused to budge.
I have been a client for over 10 years - what terrible customer service this is !
Is ther anything I can do?
This has just happened to me, credit with Scottish sse( then changed to ovo ) was in credit, paying £97 via DD, I'm a single bedroom flat, but now I have my dd increased to £297, which is the same as rent! I can't afford this, I've contacted step change charity, does anyone know how I get it reduced! I'm meter read every month!

Are you still building up credit every month at the most recent prices?  Only if you work out what the actual DD should be based on actual prices and actual usage will you know if there is anything to be challenged.

If your £97 has been the same since SSE changed to OVO (that was 2020) then it's likely to no longer be enough.

You say you give meter readings every month - do these appear on your bills correctly?

Sometimes suppliers overestimate the usage of customers so they can increase their DD's. If you have 12 months bills that have the actual usage then you can counter their claim to increase the DD as the credit should be nearly used up before they increase the DD. If you keep adding to the credit after each months bill is deducted even in winter, then you could request a refund of some of the credit, they should, at most, want to keep a months DD payment to prevent a debt occurring should the following bill use the credit plus the months DD payment.

Just use the last 12 month's usage then divide the total by 12  to give the DD amount, as you have £166 credit just take £13.80 of the DD total and that should be what you pay over the next 12 months if it is an average winter that year.
Someone please tell me what money is

How much energy do you use in a year - in kWh not £s - and what Ovo tariff are you on? When your last ACTUAL meter reading taken and what was the debit/credit balance.

Suppliers calculate your DD payment for the next 12 months by looking at the annual cost of your usage; adding any debit balance/deducting any credit balance and then dividing by 12.

Your payments just fund an account from which your cost of the energy used is deducted.

Without more information no one can advise.
