If you're off piste, are you really still on the run any more?

If the OP had nothing new to learn then the time spent here could have been spent moving to the variable DD method (even if they have to change supplier).  Then they could be putting money in their own savings pot & making interest.  The solution is there staring them in the face, and they already apparently knew that but chose to ignore the option.  And of course the information given in any thread can prove useful to others so all advice is valid.

OK, I've done the calculations and they are not a million miles out.
I admit I should have done this before and it was sloppy of me not to.
But I still think I should be allowed to keep the current direct debit until I get a bill that's actually in the red.
I have been in credit for two years, at one time over £300 so they have had plenty of my money before.
I don't see why I should be subsidising them even more.
There's a very good chance you would be in the red by your next bill if your payments hadn't gone up and energy supplier's obviously don't want that to happen as it would cause many customer's extra hardship in the long run. The amounts you are paying by direct debit every month should be covering the amount you are using every month. Though if you use less during the summer months then you will build up a little extra so that you are covering the excess for the coming winter. That way your payments and usage balances each other out.

The other way to pay for your energy if you are happy to have higher and lower amounts leaving your account at different times of the year is to request monthly billing. Many people prefer the former option, and others prefer this latter one. It's up to you which you want to do.

Sounds like you might prefer variable direct debit, this will bill you for your usage only, but it will mean if you use more you pay more.

It is legal.  As also seen your newer comment.

I apologise if I have offended anybody.
I am thankful for the advice and I think I have said so.
But I have also asked it to stop but that's being ignored.
Do you think that is "mindful of the impact of your posts to other community members"?
So it could be argued that I am being offended myself !
The repeat postings are just irritating now and are driving me crazy.
I doubt I will ever post on this forum again.

The thing is, even though you were the original poster, you don't control the thread and if/when people choose to reply.

Discussions often go off on a tangent and address similar issues that you might not find relevant, or people might provide their own experience on something that's already been brought up.

Things that come up later in a thread might be useful for other readers who come across the posts in future.  Sometimes a new poster comes into the end of your thread with a new question.

If it's the notifications that are bugging you, then you can turn them off - I don't know exactly how in this new system but it used to be on a cog on the front of the thread iirc.  Then you can happily ignore anything the rest of us write here for as long as you wish.
