Good stuff. Pays to check, not least after the latin debate!! You can stick para numbers in brackets after the judgments referred to in the skelly.2

Spoke to the court over the past couple of days to see if there were any Parking cases being heard that I could sit into as I've never been in a court before so think it'd be highly valuable for me just to sit into one and see how things work / how hearings are conducted.
They responded inviting me to this one, so off to court todayIt'll be interesting to see if the Defendant uses the template defence from this forum and what the judgement will be in this particular case.

Keep in mind it could be this defendants first time in court and your presence could be unnerving.

I personally, wouldn't mind if there were additional people in attendance at mine, but I appreciate it can be different for others.

It is open court, so anyone can wander in and out at any time. Justice should be seen to be done as the phrase goes.... If the o/p wishes to sit in, he should.
If everyone did this they may be less unnerved by the unglamorous environment that is the county court!6 -

I'd be far more nervous next week if I don't attend today because I'll not feel fully prepared. The Defendant today may have sat in on a case himself, and if he hasn't he had the opportunity to do so.1 -
This is good preparation.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

That was a real eye opener.
In the case I sat in:
The C won mostly down to D not having any case law printed or annotated that he intended to rely on. The D also did not have a signed witness statement, or statement of truth however the judge allowed it as the C accepted it as the Ds version of events.
The C didn't allow the D to pull up the case law on his phone. The judge asked permission to allow but they said no.
My big takeaways from the experience is that I now know how the hearings progress, and how its absolutely crucial that everything is printed, labelled, page numbered and everything you intend to rely on you can quickly reference.
PPC were awarded 2 PCNs, but failed to get the £70 additional. Awarded court fee, hearing fee, solicitor fee + interest.
Was clear D had gone at it alone, and wasn't anybody from this forum, which is a shame.5 -
Remember that the number of defendants who have had advice from this forum and who go to court for these claims, is a tiny fraction of the total number of claims.3
